It has been 240 years since the defeat of Fire Lord Ozai and the ending of the great 100-year war. Under the watchful eye of Avatar Aang, the world has enjoyed peace and prosperity, including the slowly recovering Air Nomad peoples. But the Avatar has recently passed on in his old age, leaving the world to its own devices until the next fully-realized Avatar in the cycle emerges.
Now those who still believe in the old ways are less fearful to end their silence with the threat of the Avatar gone. Fire nation people still convinced of their nation's superiority or that they were greatly wronged; Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe people both eager for revenge while they have the chance; even the occasional Air Nomad struggling against bitterness at the destruction of the culture they are now working so hard to rebuild; and unease throughout all four peoples that the times of peace may be nearing an end...
